SHAFAQNA -Â The UN Security Council is going to vote on approval of Iran nuclear deal on Monday, July 20. After the vote the process of lifting international sanctions will start.
The vote is only going to be only a formality, since five permanent members – UK, China, France, Russia and the U.S., plus Germany were behind this nuclear deal. Thus, no other member can block the deal by using the veto right.
The text of the UN resolution launches a gradual and conditional lifting of economic sanctions in exchange for guarantees that Iran will not develop a nuclear bomb.
The resolution calls for the agreement’s “full implementation on the timetable established” and urges UN member countries to facilitate the process.
The text says the UN’s nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), must “undertake the necessary verification and monitoring of Iran’s nuclear commitments.”
The resolution also demands that Iran “cooperate fully” with the IAEA.
The UN has seven major resolutions outlining sanctions against Iran, including resolutions that ban the trade of goods linked to Iranian nuclear activities and freezes on assets of Iranian officials and companies.
