US-led jets strike ISIL-held oil sites in Syria

The aerial operations by the US-led coalition’s aircraft on Sunday struck targets near the Turkish border town of Tal Abyad, located just across the border from Turkish town of Akcakale, the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported.

SHAFAQNA–US-led warplanes have reportedly hit oil refinery sites under the control of Takfiri ISIL militants in Syria in a bid to prevent the terrorists from selling oil.

The UK-based group also said, “At least three makeshift refineries under IS (ISIL) control in the Tal Abyad region were destroyed.”

The development came after a wave of strikes on Thursday evening against the Syrian oil infrastructure that had fallen into the hands of foreign-backed militants.

The observatory, which claims to possess a broad network of sources across Syria, further stated that the ISIL terrorists “had been refining crude and selling it to Turkish buyers.”

The aerial raids near Tal Abyad came following more strikes on Saturday around the mainly Kurdish town of Ain al-Arab, which is also close to the Turkish border.

The town, referred to as Kobani in Kurdish, has been under attack by the ISIL Takfiri terrorists for over a week, triggering a massive exodus of an estimated 160,000 refugees into Turkey.

The US-led warplanes also continued their aerial strikes outside Raqqa Province, the major ISIL stronghold in Syria, earlier on Sunday.

The strikes, according to the SOHR, demolished a plastic factory just outside Raqqa city, killing at least one civilian.

Meanwhile, most European governments have refrained from joining the US-led air campaign in Syria. This has prompted US to resort to the air power of its Persian Gulf Arab allies, including Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as Jordan.
