What is the ruling on money given in celebrations? The Grand Ayatollah Makarem’s answer

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Makarem answered a question about money given in celebrations (such as weddings where money is given to those who dance or throw at bride and groom).

Question: What is the ruling on money (or other gifts) given/thrown at in celebrations?

The Grand Ayatollah Makarem: There is a problem, if it is given for dancing. And if it is not considered as misbehaviour, return it to its original owner; otherwise give it to poor people as Sadaqah (charity in the way of God), and if you are needy yourself, you can use it.
