What is the ruling when non-religious doctors prohibit patients from fasting? The Grand Ayatollah Khamenei’s Fatwa

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Khamenei answered a question about non-religious doctors prohibiting patients from fasting.

Question: Some doctors, who do not observe religious issues, prohibit patients from fasting because of causing harm. Can the opinions/sayings of these doctors be proof or not?

The Grand Ayatollah Khamenei: The person himself/herself needs to make a decision. If he/she thinks there is a logical probability that fasting is harmful, fasting is not Wajib for him/her. Of course, the fear sometimes comes from trusted specialists and sometimes from other similar patient’s experiences.
