What to do when parents prohibit their children to fast? The Grand Ayatollah Khamenei’s Fatwa

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Khamenei answered a question about parents prohibiting their children from fasting.

Question: This year I have entrance exams, and considering that the Month of Ramadhan is before that, fasting and studying is difficult. Because last year I was also in the same situation and did my fasting and could not get good grades, my family have prohibited me from fasting this year in order to concentrate on my studies. What is my duty; do I have to obey my parents or not?

The Grand Ayatollah Khamenei: Just for the sake of what has been mentioned (in the question), cannot be the justification for not fasting; and it is not allowed to obey parents to abandon Wajib.
