SHAFAQNA – There are various narrations regarding the burial place for the holy head of Imam Hussain (AS) but the most popular one among Shia Muslims and the majority of Sunni Muslims is that Imam’s head was taken back to where the rest of his body was and then the whole body was buried by Imam Sajjad (AS).
The Shia scholars such as, Sheikh Sadooq, Seyyed Mortaza, Allameh Helli, Seyyed ibn Tawoos, Sheikh Bahaei and Allameh Majlesi and Sunni scholars such as Abu Reyhan Birooni, Qortabi all have reported the above version. Seyyed ibn Tawoos has written: But it has been reported that the head of Hussain (AS) was returned and buried in Karbala with the rest of his holy body as this happened for all other companions of Imam Hussain (AS) [6].
Allameh Majlesi wrote that one of the most popular points in Ziarat Imam Hussain (AS) on the Day of Arbaeen is that all the holy heads were returned to their bodies by Imam Sajjad (AS) [7]. In another place, Majlesi after reporting other versions wrote: The most popular among Shia scholars is that the head of Imam Hussain (AS) was buried with his body [8].
