SHAFAQNA- Fighting in the Gaza Strip continued for a second day after the collapse of truce talks, as Israeli forces killed a woman and at least one young child in an assassination attempt targeting a Hamas military leader.

“The wife of the great leader was martyred with his daughter,” in a strike Tuesday night, Hamas’s exiled deputy leader Moussa Abu Marzuk wrote on Facebook while saying nothing about the fate of Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades commander Daif himself. Later reports only mentioned the death of Daif’s young son.

It was not clear whether Daif, who has already survived five previous assassination attempts by Israel, was present when the attack took place or had survived the strike.

Palestinian health officials said the strike on a house in Gaza City killed at least four people but did not initially provide any details about two of the victims. Daif and his wife Widad had two daughters and a son together.

It was not clear where the couple’s two girls were when the strike happened.
