Zarif: Iran don’t give in to coercion

SHAFAQNAIran would not give in to force, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Thursday at the Mediterranean Dialogues Conference (MED) in the Italian capital of Rome.

Addressing the annual International Mediterranean Dialogues Conference (IMED) late on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif said, “Iran has endured not for 40 years but for 7,000 years. History of the Iranian and Italian emperors is older than certain claimant countries and that’s for the same reason we will not surrender to force, as we know no power is permanent.”

Why should Iran change its regional policies? Was it Iran that supported Saddam? Was it Iran that backed the ISIS, Taliban, and NusraFront? Did we create the 9/11? Did we impose a blockade on Qatar? Are we bombing the people of Yemen? Did we imprison the prime minister of another state in our country? Was it Iran that adopted wrong policies? They are the ones who should change their regional policies and behaviours, publicnow reported.

“We negotiated with the US along with other countries, and reached a good conclusion. Now Europe and others should make investments and pay costs for their efforts and global security. You can’t swim without getting wet”.

“Everyone knows me as a man of interaction and dialogue; but when it comes to choosing between Iran’s independence and interaction with the world, I’d definitely choose my country’s independence,” he said.

“Diplomacy is not a game, and we’re always ready for serious action.”

Zarif arrived in Rome late Wednesday to take part in the annual International Mediterranean Dialogues Conference (IMED).

Different options for Iran if JCPOA not implemented

Addressing a joint meeting of Iran-Italy chambers of commerce and Italian Industries Confederation attended by a number of Italian entrepreneurs, the country’s deputy foreign minister and head of Italian Chamber of Commerce, Zarif underlined role of the Iranian nation as the country’s mainstay.

“We did not talk about the JCPOA to seek excuses for setting it aside,” Zarif said.

Referring to deep historic and cultural relations between the Iranian and Italian nations, he said that one of the goals of the JCPOA was to normalize Iran’s ties with other countries, but this has faced bullying of the US President Donald Trump.

“If the Americans do not like or cannot take advantage of commercial and economic opportunities in Iran, what right they can have to create obstacles in the way of other countries’ engagement with Iran.”

Iranian and Italian companies should use the two countries’ huge trade and economic opportunities, Zarif said.

“There are numerous ways for cooperation between the two countries and we are currently engaged in doing them,” he said.

Head of the Italy-Iran chamber of commerce also told the same gathering that Italy is the first trade partner of Iran in Europe, hoping the status will remain in place, IRNA reported.

Iranian, Italian FMs discuss EU new special mechanism

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif and his Italian counterpart Moavero Milanesi in Rome late on Thursday discussed latest developments in connection with the JCPOA and the EU special mechanism for preserving the deal after the US’ unilateral and unlawful exit from it.

During the meeting, both sides hailed historic and growing bilateral ties, while underlining their political resolve to promote ties in the political, economic and cultural spheres.

Zarif said the US violated not only the JCPOA but also the UN Security Council’s Resolution 2231, as it currently encourages others to breach it and threatens those wishing to uphold it.

Italian foreign minister, for his part, described the JCPOA as a deal, helping promote international peace and security, underlining his country’s all-out efforts to help salvage the international accord along with other EU members.

Enhancement of economic and cultural cooperation, especially in the field of tourism, scientific cooperation, regional developments, Yemen catastrophic situation as well as Libyan developments were among other issues discussed during the top-ranking officials’ talks, Mehr News Agency reported.

Italy determined to support Iran Deal

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a message emphasized Italy’s determination to support Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA).

“Met with Italian FM on sidelines of #MED2018; reviewed bilateral ties & peace efforts in Yemen, Syria & Libya. Also met with large group of Italian businesses eager to engage with Iran. All riled by US bullying & determined to protect #JCPOA & to ensure Iran’s economic dividends,” Zarif tweeted on Friday.
