SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has reaffirmed Tehran’s full support for Lebanon in its battle against extremist and terrorist groups.
According to the reports, the Foreign Minister in a meeting with visiting Lebanese Defense Minister Samir Moqbel in Tehran on Monday said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran, as in the past, will stand by the Lebanese nation’s resistance and army and is fully prepared for political, security and intelligence cooperation in order to counter extremist and terrorist groups.”
He added that overlooking the threat of terrorist groups in Syria over the past three years has been a “big strategic mistake” which resulted in adverse consequences such as insecurity and flood of refugees fleeing Syria for Lebanon and other countries in the region.
The minister stressed the importance of unity, solidarity and national consensus among all political groups and tribes in Lebanon to counter the influence of terrorists and extremism.
Zarif expressed hope that the Lebanese nation and political groups would manage to elect a new president through dialog as soon as possible.
Moqbel, for his part, said Iran’s assistance for the Lebanese army will certainly play a leading role in the country’s resistance against Takfiri and terrorist groups.
