Copper-zinc suit offers new hope for injured penguins

Shafaqna English– A team of researchers in Chile has developed a specialized healing garment made from copper and zinc, intended to accelerate post-surgical recovery in penguins. These birds frequently require surgical intervention for injuries resulting from entanglement in fishing gear, and the new suit is designed to promote faster wound healing following such procedures.

The garment was developed by modifying copper bodysuits that had originally been designed for use on quadrupeds, adapting them for avian patients. This project was carried out through a partnership involving the Humboldt Conservation Center (a non-profit organization), the Catholic University of the North, and Kimba Vet, a firm specializing in textile innovation.
