Shafaqna English- A team of scientists in Padua, a city in northern Italy, has spent several weeks working in a laboratory away from the intense summer heat. They have been finalizing a new instrument that they believe has the potential to revolutionize the study of the solar corona—the outermost layer of the Sun’s atmosphere.
As Europe witnesses a total solar eclipse on August 12, the Circular Slit Spectrometer (CISS) will be subjected to a critical trial at the Javalambre Astrophysical Observatory in Spain. The research team hopes to establish that this device can break down the Sun’s light into its spectral components considerably faster than current technologies allow.
