Shafaqna English- The Alawi Holy Shrine has put the number of pilgrims who visited Najaf on the anniversary of the passing of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) at five million.
According to Shafaqna, Iraqi news website Alsumaria News reported on Wednesday afternoon that Haider Rahim, spokesperson for the Alawi Holy Shrine, said at a press conference that five million pilgrims took part in commemorating the anniversary of the Prophet’s passing in Najaf.
Rahim also said that more than 300 mourning processions, along with 500 service processions, participated in the pilgrimage in the Old City, while 2,500 volunteers were involved. More than 250,000 meals were also distributed to pilgrims.
The Alawi Holy Shrine spokesperson added that 100 vehicles were allocated to assist with the return of pilgrims, while five medical teams from the shrine participated in providing services during the pilgrimage.
Meanwhile, Najaf Governor Youssef Kannawi, who also attended the press conference, stressed that all provincial departments played a role in the successful organization of the pilgrimage and expressed his appreciation to everyone who contributed to serving the pilgrims.
