Shafaqna English– For the first time, a Chinese container ship is sailing to Europe through the Arctic on a weekly schedule. The route is much faster, taking only half the time of traditional sea lanes. But environmental groups have warned that this might speed up the melting of ice in the polar region.
The ship, named “Dubai Tower,” departed from the eastern Chinese city of Ningbo on Saturday(15 Aug 2026) night. It is traveling north, going through the Bering Strait. After that, it will head west, sailing through the very cold waters that run along the northern coast of Russia.
The shipping company Sea Legend has said the ship will arrive at Felixstowe in the United Kingdom on September 7. After that, it will make stops in Hamburg, Germany and Gdynia, Poland before the end of the week.
