Shafaqna English– Amazon announced on Wednesday(19 Aug 2026) that it intends to scale up its drone‑based delivery service significantly, aiming to cover hundreds of municipalities across the United States by the end of the current year. The company currently operates in just 11 locations, though these hubs serve a number of surrounding communities beyond their immediate boundaries.
This rollout is taking place over 10 years after Bezos first introduced the concept of drone delivery to the public. In 2013, the Amazon founder unveiled the octocopter—a type of unmanned drone—and confidently stated that customers would be using the service within four to five years. The current expansion thus represents a long‑delayed fulfillment of that original vision.
