Shafaqna English– India’s securities watchdog is preparing to modernize decades‑old rules to address the steep rise in foreign investment outflows, three people with knowledge of the matter said. Market participants suggest that the move could improve the country’s standing in worldwide stock indexes.
If enacted, the reforms would coincide with foreign ownership of Indian equities having fallen to its lowest point in 17 years. The rupee, which has depreciated by about 6% this year, is among the weakest currencies in Asia, pressured by concerns over rising import costs and sluggish capital inflows.
