Shafaqna English– Following street protests that local media said had turned into nighttime rioting in Jakarta, transport officials decided on Friday to suspend or divert several train and bus routes. These measures were implemented in an effort to reduce tensions and maintain public order.
Protests by various groups started on Thursday morning near the national parliament, with a heavy security presence, on the anniversary of last year’s deadly protests. Those protests continued for two weeks and represented the first serious challenge for President Prabowo Subianto’s government.
