Iraq sees drop in crude exports

Shafaqna English-  Oil Minister Basim Mohammed Khudair Al-Abadi revealed on Saturday(8 Aug 2026) that Iraq is currently producing 2.75 million barrels of crude per day, while export figures for this month have fallen sharply to 1.75 million bpd. This disparity highlights the challenges facing the country’s oil sector in maintaining consistent external sales.

During a press briefing, Khudair noted that prior to the outbreak of war, Iraq was exporting roughly 3.4 million bpd through the strategic Strait of Hormuz. However, he confirmed that shipments passing through this vital maritime route have experienced a steady decline since the onset of hostilities, severely affecting the country’s export capacity.
