Shafaqna English– The Panathenaic Stadium has witnessed countless memorable moments, from the footsteps of marathon champions and the electrifying performances of rock legends, to the triumphant entry of the first modern Olympians in 1896. But after decades of wear and tear, this iconic marble venue is finally due for a thorough and historic deep clean.
This iconic Athenian landmark, with its characteristic horseshoe design and pure white marble construction, is finally receiving a long-overdue systematic wash — the first of its kind since the stadium was originally rebuilt for the 1896 Olympics.
Originally reconstructed to serve as the centerpiece of the inaugural modern Olympic Games held in 1896, this historic venue now fulfills a deeply symbolic role as the official starting point for the Olympic torch relay. In this capacity, it will once again take center stage when the flame is ceremonially handed over for the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Games.
