Pipeline projects to reshape Canada’s oil exports

Shafaqna English– Despite significant hesitation from oil sands operators who are unwilling to greenlight major production increases due to persistent uncertainties surrounding climate regulations and the long-term outlook for global crude demand, Canadian pipeline companies are pressing ahead with proposals for multi-billion-dollar infrastructure projects, signaling a divergence in strategic outlook between transporters and producers.

Currently, a minimum of six distinct pipeline ventures are either actively under construction or in the planning stages across Canada, each designed to transport crude oil either southward to U.S. refining hubs or westward to tidewater terminals on the Pacific Coast for shipment to Asian markets. Should every one of these projects reach completion, Reuters calculations indicate that the nation’s total export pipeline capacity would surge by 45%—equivalent to an additional 2.25 million barrels per day—by the year 2035.
