Pleasant positive emotions strongly linked to life satisfaction, study finds

Shafaqna English- A longitudinal analysis in Germany and the Netherlands found that both pleasant and energized positive emotions are associated with life satisfaction, but pleasant positive emotions show a substantially stronger relationship, according to PsyPost.

The study, published in the Journal of Positive Psychology, analyzed long-term data from two large population studies. Researchers found that the relationship works in both directions: greater life satisfaction predicted later positive emotions, while positive emotions also predicted later life satisfaction.

The researchers also found different personality links. Pleasant positive emotions were more strongly associated with lower neuroticism, while energized emotions such as enthusiasm and engagement were more closely linked to extraversion.

The findings suggest that different forms of positive emotion should not be treated as interchangeable when studying subjective well-being. However, the researchers noted that their conclusions may depend on how these emotional categories were measured.
