Shafaqna English– Citing two anonymous officials familiar with the decision, Reuters reported on Tuesday that Brasília will push forward the end date of its gasoline price-support measure—currently set at 0.44 reais per liter ($0.0855)—to September 9, thereby averting its planned termination on Wednesday(26 Aug 2026).
Designed as a fiscal buffer for local consumers, this subsidy—directed at gasoline manufacturers and importers—was first enacted after hostilities flared between Washington and Tehran in the Gulf region. The policy was meant to absorb the pass-through of elevated global oil costs onto Brazil’s retail fuel market. Nevertheless, the measure had been due to lapse as of today (Wednesday).
