Teenage girl accused in San Diego mosque attack

Shafaqna English– A 17-year-old girl from North Carolina now faces criminal charges after a grand jury determined on Monday that she had actively participated in the May 18 attack on a San Diego mosque, a shooting that resulted in three deaths.

Authorities believe her role involved documenting the violence through a live video feed and then circulating that content, which they argue constituted material support for the perpetrators.

At a press briefing, Forsyth County DA Jim O’Neill revealed that the decision to pursue state-level prosecution was based on North Carolina’s statutory provisions that allow juvenile defendants to be treated as adults in criminal proceedings.

The stakes are exceptionally high: a guilty verdict in state court would mandate a life sentence with no possibility of release, while a federal conviction would have limited punishment to just three or four years, illustrating the dramatic difference in outcomes between the two legal tracks.
