India limits ethanol production from sugar cane

Shafaqna English- India’s government is actively considering a policy that would restrict the volume of sugarcane directed toward ethanol production during the season beginning in October, according to two government and two industry sources. The move reflects an urgent need to enhance sugar output and address the persistent problem of record-breaking sugar prices, which have been a significant economic burden for the country.

The sources, who requested anonymity due to the confidential nature of the discussions, also pointed out that Maharashtra and Karnataka, which are India’s two largest sugarcane-producing states, have experienced below-average rainfall. This deficit in precipitation has sparked serious apprehensions about the country’s sugar production capacity for the upcoming year.
