Shafaqna English- Colombia’s head of state committed on Wednesday(12 Aug 2026) to launching an emergency fund aimed at rebuilding the facilities and infrastructure destroyed by Monday’s seismic event, which has resulted in 265 confirmed fatalities and roughly 500 people still reported as missing.
De La Espriella, who had assumed the presidency just 72 hours before the devastating 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia, expressed in his national address: “This is a disaster of unprecedented scale. Our efforts are currently concentrated on the search for those still reported as missing.”
