Shafaqna English- Starting Wednesday(12 Aug 2026), Meta Platforms will confront a coalition of state attorneys general in a federal courthouse in California, facing allegations that it deliberately designed Facebook and Instagram to be addictive for underage users.
This legal battle carries the potential to impose substantial financial penalties on the company and compel it to implement far-reaching modifications across its social media platforms.
The proceedings, taking place in Oakland and projected to span seven weeks, will examine the accusations lodged by Colorado, Kentucky, California, and New Jersey, which allege that Meta engineered its platforms to be addictive for young users and deceived consumers about their safety features.
The trial will also tackle the complaints brought by 29 states, contending that the company illegally gathered and processed children’s information in breach of federal regulations.
