Shafaqna English- Rescue teams spent Tuesday(11 Aug 2026) digging through piles of wreckage in western Colombia. They called for silence so they could listen for the voices of survivors who remained trapped beneath collapsed buildings. Officials estimate the quake has claimed at least 250 lives.
The quake, which registered 7.4 on the Richter scale, is the most severe to hit Colombia in the last hundred years. It struck the country’s coffee-producing region in the early hours of Monday, causing widespread damage to apartment blocks, houses, schools, and healthcare facilities—many of which were cracked, tilted, or razed to the ground.
