Shafaqna English– A powerful earthquake of 7.7 magnitude, accompanied by dozens of aftershocks, struck offshore eastern Indonesia during the early morning hours of Saturday(15 Aug 2026), and initial official statements from the provincial governor indicate that the death toll has reached at least five.
In various parts of this Southeast Asian country, tsunami waves measuring under one metre (approximately 3 feet) were observed; however, the authorities decided to cancel the tsunami warning roughly three hours following the main shock.
