Europe’s drought worsens as rivers shrink

Shafaqna English- Europe’s worsening drought is disrupting transportation, agriculture, and energy production. Critically low river levels are restricting freight traffic, while prolonged heat is depleting soil moisture across large parts of the continent.

Recent research by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) indicated that drought conditions remained “stable and critical” throughout most of Europe in July. However, these conditions have worsened in central-western areas, including France, southern Germany, Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.
