Gold dropped as investors booked profits

Shafaqna English– Gold retreated on Thursday(20 Aug 2026), as market participants cashed in on recent gains after prices had soared to a more‑than‑two‑month peak. The upward move had been fueled by the Treasury Department’s surprise pledge to bolster liquidity for long‑duration debt, which weighed on the greenback and reduced bond yields. However, the resulting rally proved to be an opportunity for investors to secure their profits, triggering a modest pullback.

By 0331 GMT, spot gold had slipped 0.6% to $4,495.69 per ounce. Earlier in the session, it had reached $4,525.79—its highest intraday level since June 2—following a sharp advance of more than 4% recorded on Wednesday.
