Shafaqna English– South Korea is set to launch a container ship toward Europe through the Arctic on Saturday, aiming to assess the commercial potential of a passage that has become navigable due to shrinking sea ice. But the initiative could create diplomatic tensions with Western nations, as Russian involvement is required to complete the voyage.
If the mission succeeds, it will be the first commercial shipping trip of its kind for South Korea to Europe through the Arctic, positioning the country among a select group—including China and Russia—whose maritime firms have already explored or established cargo operations on the route.
