Asian shares hesitant

Shafaqna English– Asian equity markets opened Monday(24 Aug 2026) with a distinctly cautious tone, tracking sideways as participants refrained from making bold moves ahead of the much-anticipated U.S. announcement on Iran sanctions scheduled for later that day.

Crude benchmarks softened in tandem, reflecting a wait-and-see approach among commodity traders. Meanwhile, the loonie came under modest pressure as fresh fears of a tit-for-tat trade conflict between Canada and the United States resurfaced, weighing on the currency amid rising protectionist rhetoric.

The semiconductor industry—and indeed the broader technology sector—is collectively bracing for Nvidia’s quarterly results due Wednesday, with virtually every portfolio manager and analyst acknowledging the extraordinarily high stakes involved.

The prevailing concern is not whether the company will post strong numbers, but rather whether those numbers will be strong enough to justify the astronomical valuations and growth assumptions already priced into its stock, given that the bar has been elevated to nearly unattainable heights in recent quarters.
