US company sets its sights on China’s ETF sector

Shafaqna English– Susquehanna International Group, a prominent US-based trading firm headquartered in Philadelphia, is planning a significant expansion of its Hong Kong operations, aiming to triple its current office footprint in the city to accommodate an ambitious hiring drive, according to four anonymous sources familiar with the matter.

The firm has been scouting for larger premises in Hong Kong’s financial district over recent weeks, with one option under consideration being a three-floor lease spanning more than 50,000 square feet at the newly redeveloped Cheung Kong Center II in Central—a move that would replace its existing sub-20,000-square-foot space at AIA Central.

While Susquehanna has declined to comment on the plans, sources indicate that this expansion is strategically aimed at tapping into China’s rapidly growing exchange-traded fund (ETF) market and gaining deeper access to various asset classes across the region, thereby strengthening the firm’s global trading capabilities.

A fifth source added that the company is particularly focused on leveraging opportunities in China’s booming ETF sector to better support its worldwide business operations.
