WFP scales back food assistance in West Bank

Shafaqna English– The World Food Programme has announced that severe funding shortfalls will force it to halve its food assistance in the occupied West Bank, reducing support from 400,000 to 200,000 people starting this month, at a time when escalating settler violence and Israeli military operations are actually increasing humanitarian needs.

The UN agency, which provides food, vouchers, and cash primarily to rural and southern areas such as Hebron, warned that movement restrictions, demolitions, and displacement have already devastated Palestinian livelihoods and worsened food insecurity. WFP Country Director Shaun Hughes emphasized that assistance should be expanding rather than being cut.
