Shafaqna English- Rising prices of chemical fertilizers threaten wheat production in Afghanistan, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) warned.
FAO said in a report on Thursday, 6 August, that it needs $38.3 million in funding to support farmers in Afghanistan and provide them with access to fertilizers and improved wheat seeds.
The organization said the goal of this programme is to assist 600,000 farming families before the start of the winter wheat planting season.
FAO said that using improved seeds together with sufficient fertilizer and appropriate agricultural practices can increase wheat yields by 32.8 percent.
