Shafaqna English- Jorge Rodriguez, the head of Venezuela’s National Assembly, announced on Wednesday(12 Aug 2026) that the country’s authorities are planning to prioritize reconstruction initiatives alongside efforts to recover an estimated $4 billion in gold reserves currently stored in the underground vaults of the Bank of England—a pressing objective as monthly inflation in Venezuela has surged to 20%.
Approximately 31 tons of Venezuela’s gold reserves remain locked in the Bank of England’s vaults, and the central bank has consistently refused to return them, citing its non-recognition of Nicolas Maduro’s government as legitimate.
