Shafaqna English– Moroccan security forces took into custody a minimum of 111 would‑be migrants on Saturday(15 Aug 2026), during an abortive push towards Ceuta. The heightened security posture on both Moroccan and Spanish sides of the border had been pre‑emptively tightened, in direct response to social‑media campaigns that encouraged a fresh wave of collective entry.
This latest incident occurred just a fortnight after an unprecedented influx of over 72,000 migrants had swarmed into Ceuta, an event that not only provoked sharp diplomatic friction within the European Union but also galvanised anti‑immigrant discourse among far‑right political groups across the globe. Tragically, that earlier mass movement had already claimed at least 96 lives.
