Shafaqna English– Sunday’s(16 Aug 2026) protest by migrants on the beaches of Ceuta sent a clear message to Spanish authorities: “We seek asylum, not return to Morocco.” These recently arrived migrants gathered at a public beach to voice their objection to potential deportation.
These migrants are among the estimated 5,000 to 8,000 individuals who remain in Ceuta following the mass border crossing two weeks ago, during which over 72,000 people surged into the small territory of roughly 80,000 residents. The vast majority of them returned voluntarily in the subsequent days.
