Shafaqna English– Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Commission, put forward a proposal on Monday(3 Aug 2026) urging the EU to reinforce its frontiers and boost backing for Morocco in order to stop a rerun of last week’s disorderly entry of 50,000 migrants into Ceuta.
This wave started on Thursday at one of just two EU–Africa land crossings – the other is the border between Morocco and Melilla – and set off widespread concern throughout the Union.
