Shafaqna English– Tuesday’s(18 Aug 2026) report from China’s state-run CCTV cited the National Climate Centre as saying that a super El Nino—one that could surpass all previously recorded instances—is now expected to develop in the coming months.
Citing the climate center’s projections, CCTV reported that sea surface temperatures across the central and eastern equatorial Pacific are expected to climb progressively, reaching their peak sometime between November and December. This warming pattern could give rise to what may be the strongest El Nino on historical record.
The effects of the current El Nino cycle have already been felt across China since the onset of summer, manifesting in torrential rains that have drenched various parts of the country, according to local reports.
