Shafaqna English– It is widely known that ticks can transmit infections leading to serious diseases such as Lyme disease. Now, health officials are working to raise awareness about a less recognized issue: a deadly allergy to meat caused by tick bites.
This condition, called alpha-gal syndrome, was first connected to a specific type of tick around 15 years ago. However, cases are increasing as more people experience symptoms like hives, diarrhea, and itching after eating even a small amount of meat, and in some instances, dairy products. The allergy does not affect the consumption of seafood or poultry. Chicken, turkey, and eggs are safe to eat.
