Global halal market set to reach $3.6 trillion by 2029

Shafaqna English- The global halal market is projected to grow from around $2.6 trillion in 2024 to $3.6 trillion by 2029, driven by rising Muslim populations and growing consumer demand for quality, safety, health and ethical products, Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Shuhada Uthman said, according to Business In Bangladesh.

Speaking at a Malaysia-Bangladesh seminar in Dhaka on August 19, Uthman said the halal economy has expanded far beyond religious certification, covering food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, tourism, hospitality, finance, supply chains and apparel.

She highlighted Bangladesh’s large population, expanding economy, manufacturing capacity and dynamic private sector as major opportunities for developing its halal industry. Malaysia, she said, can share expertise in certification, standards, policy, skills development, research, innovation and halal ecosystem building.

Uthman called for stronger cooperation between Malaysian and Bangladeshi companies through joint ventures, investment, technology and knowledge transfer, supply-chain development, skills training and business partnerships.

She also urged Bangladeshi businesses to use Malaysia as a gateway to the wider ASEAN and global halal markets, while encouraging Malaysian companies to view Bangladesh not only as a consumer market but also as a potential manufacturing and investment partner.

The High Commissioner invited Bangladeshi companies to participate in the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS), scheduled for September 23–26. She said the event provides opportunities to meet international buyers and investors, find distributors, understand global market demand and build cross-border partnerships.

Uthman expressed hope that deeper halal-industry cooperation would create new commercial opportunities and become another important bridge for strengthening Malaysia-Bangladesh bilateral relations.
