Shafaqna English– Negotiators from both sides are reportedly nearing a comprehensive trade pact, under which the U.S. would agree to lower tariffs on several critical categories of Canadian exports—specifically, passenger vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, and key base metals that are vital to manufacturing supply chains. The move would mark a notable de‑escalation in trade tensions between the two countries.
Although U.S. President Donald Trump had warned that a new round of tariffs on Canadian goods would take effect on Wednesday(19 Aug 2026), he later pushed the implementation date back to Saturday(22 Aug 2026). The White House attributed the postponement to tangible progress made during the trade talks, suggesting that both parties are working in good faith to resolve outstanding differences.
