Vatican sets up solar‑farming hybrid plant

Shafaqna English– The Vatican is set to build a €100‑million ($117‑million) renewable power station that could fully supply the Holy See with electricity in just two years, relying on a hybrid approach that pairs solar energy with agriculture, according to those briefed on the matter.

The sources further noted that the agrivoltaic installation is projected to generate between 80 and 90 megawatts, which would rank it among the largest projects of its kind in Italy. In these systems, solar panels are elevated several meters above ground level, allowing crops to flourish underneath, while the shade minimizes water loss through evaporation and protects plants from harsh weather conditions.
