Shafaqna English– Jannik Sinner, the current world No. 1 ranked men’s tennis player, has officially withdrawn from the upcoming U.S. Open, as the Italian star announced on Friday(21 Aug 2026). The 24-year-old’s decision comes as a result of a persistent injury to his right knee, which has not responded adequately to treatment.
His withdrawal is a major setback for the year’s last Grand Slam tournament, depriving it of one of its pre-tournament favorites and most talked-about contenders.
The 24-year-old’s last competitive appearance came during the Wimbledon championships, where he lifted the trophy for the fifth time in his career.
However, an injury sustained earlier this month has kept him out of action ever since, and the lack of sufficient recovery time has prompted him to withdraw from the U.S. Open, a tournament where his powerful baseline game and consistent form would have made him a strong favorite for the title.
