Shafaqna English– During a Tuesday(25 Aug 2026) address, President Donald Trump revealed that he is actively exploring the possibility of officially renaming Lake Ontario as “Lake America,” while simultaneously dismissing any suggestion that disagreements over French-language mandates played a role in the recent collapse of trade negotiations between the United States and its northern neighbor.
In a social media post on Truth Social, the president justified the proposed renaming by explaining that the U.S. no longer anticipates maintaining substantial commercial relations with Ontario, writing: “The United States is giving serious consideration to changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America in that we don’t expect to doing much business with Ontario any longer.”
