Shafaqna English– On Thursday(27 Aug 2026), emergency teams continued their search for hundreds of individuals who remained unaccounted for, following the collapse of a massive mud and rock barrier into a river along the Himalayan frontier between Nepal and Chinese Tibet the previous day.
The incident unleashed devastating floodwaters that rushed through mountainous settlements and river valleys, resulting in numerous fatalities.
The tourism ministry of Nepal has disclosed to news agencies that around 340 foreigners are numbered among the more than 400 tourists still listed as missing following the calamity.
The disaster impacted a hilly region that draws large numbers of trekking groups and pilgrims each year. According to Nepal police, some 157 deceased individuals have been found and recovered from the scene as of late Wednesday.
