Shafaqna English– Based on satellite images from Planet Labs, experts have concluded that the deadly flash flood near the Nepal-Tibet border on Wednesday was likely triggered when the lower part of a glacier broke off and plunged into the valley floor hundreds of metres below, releasing a massive surge of water and debris that caused widespread destruction.
While the exact mechanism behind the glacier’s collapse has yet to be determined, Nepali officials have identified a nearby earthquake that struck the region only minutes prior as one plausible explanation for the sudden glacial failure.
