OpenAI and Elon Musk feud escalates

Shafaqna English– In a significant development on Friday(28 Aug 2026), OpenAI officially announced its intention to terminate the provision of its artificial intelligence models to Cursor—a company specializing in coding tools that has recently come under the ownership of SpaceX, the aerospace firm founded by Elon Musk.

This decision represents yet another intensification of the already acrimonious and deeply personal conflict between Sam Altman, the chief executive officer of OpenAI, and Elon Musk, who was himself a co-founder of the organization before departing amid disagreements.

The strained relationship between Musk and Altman is not a recent phenomenon; the two have been engaged in a protracted and bitter dispute spanning several years.

This long-standing conflict reached its zenith earlier this year when their legal battle went to trial, stemming from a colossal $150 billion lawsuit that Musk had filed against OpenAI. During the court proceedings, Musk’s legal counsel asserted that both Musk and other witnesses had provided testimony characterizing Altman as a dishonest individual, whereas OpenAI’s defense maintained that Musk’s true objective had been to gain unilateral control over the company’s operations and strategic direction.
