Shafaqna English- OpenAI has launched a Strategic Futures team to examine how societies can preserve human rights, autonomy and political influence as AI becomes increasingly powerful.
The team identifies concentration of power as a major long-term AI risk, warning that advanced AI could reduce governments’ dependence on human labor and potentially weaken public influence over political and economic systems.
Rather than seeking complete decentralization, the initiative calls for a balance of power, stronger individual autonomy, responsible AI use and laws that empower individuals and smaller organizations. It also proposes “bounded legibility” for high-stakes AI actions, while protecting privacy and anonymity.
The team says AI could fundamentally reshape companies, governments and civil society, making AI governance a challenge that requires collective international effort.
