Shafaqna English- A state of emergency was declared in British Columbia on Saturday(8 Aug 2026), as a fierce and fast-moving wildfire—whose perimeter had nearly doubled in size overnight—prompted compulsory evacuation orders for thousands of people living in the western Canadian province.
As the Bald Range wildfire continued to burn with no containment in sight, its size surged dramatically to reach 9,500 hectares (23,500 acres). This alarming development led to the issuance of evacuation orders for the towns of Summerland and Peachland, as well as several other districts along the western shore of Okanagan Lake in the southern interior of British Columbia.
